October 15, 2005 I wrote this some time in 1996. “Dear Dad, I’m writing a letter in light of our conversation yesterday on the train. I have thanked you once before for nurturing me to what I am today, and I will do it again. Thank you, Dad. I was very fortunate to have a father who had confidence in my ability to do whatever I aspire ever since I was a little girl. Time and time again I am reminded of how lucky I am to have had a father like you. Maybe that is why I want to write this letter, about my thoughts on something as important as choosing a 'significant other' in life. I’ve been thinking about this more and more, and have come to the conclusion that one of the reasons why I fight so hard to be where I am is not just to make something of my life and contribute to my society before I die, but also to gain my freedom from others. I never grew up thinking I’ll have to marry rich because I could not make it on my own. On the contrary, I challenge my partner to match my success.”
